Bald Eagles at Okanagan Landing, Vernon

Saturday, April 20, 2024 -- Visited with a friend on the last sunny day in a long series of beautiful days. My friend lives in a house at the northern part of Okanagan Lake near Vernon, and they have a long dock where we spent most of the day in the sun talking about what has been going on in our lives in the past 10 years.

The highlight of the day was watching several bald eagles flying quite low overhead. It looked like one of them had caught (and then dropped) a fish, which several others seemed to be keen on getting possession of!

A look to the South toward Wood Lake. There is a small strip of land between the two lakes here, Wood Lake and Kalamalka Lake. 

Leaving the highway, you get to a remote area between Kalamalka Lake and Okanagan Lake. This is Commonage Lake.

Heading West toward Okanagan Lake now, this road called Bench Row Road looks like it could use a really good overhaul!

I'm not sure what this is below the road, but the view to the other side of Okanagan Lake is rather pretty. At this time of year the hills are slightly green. This changes quickly to brown when the weather is hot and dry. 

Sitting on the dock in the sun all day, admiring the very fancy houses along the lakeshore!

I spotted a woodpecker in the tree at the shore. This one is called a Northern Flicker. 

The whole shoreline is composed of one boat dock next to the other, but we were the only ones on the lake this day. 

And the highlight of the day was watching the bald eagles which flew quite low overhead!

I was even able to capture a zoomed view of an eagle sitting in the tree...

And besides wood-peckers and eagles, we also saw mergansers on the lake.
